Janeé Steele, PhD, LPC

Everyone experiences difficulties in life that influence the way they think about themselves, others, and the future. Unfortunately, these thoughts often go unrecognized, causing significant emotional and psychological pain. As a professional counselor, I utilize cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) techniques and mindfulness strategies to help clients challenge the negative thoughts that lead to distressing emotions, behaviors, and physiological symptoms. In this work, I consistently seek to build relationships with clients that are characterized by empathy and acceptance, understanding that the counseling relationship is the most significant factor in empowering clients to overcome the negative views about self, others, and the future that lead to dysfunctional thoughts in daily situations.

I am proud to be a licensed professional counselor and certified CBT therapist. I have been a professional counselor for over 15 years, and currently specialize in the treatment of depression and anxiety. My certification in CBT includes over 40 hours of post-graduate training from the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, as well as evaluation of my clinical work, earning me the status of Diplomate and Certified CBT Therapist through the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. I am also an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider, certified through Evergreen Certifications. In addition to my work as a counselor, I serve as a member of the core faculty at Walden University. In my academic career, I’ve published both conceptual and research-based articles in peer-reviewed journals. My most recent publication titled, “A CBT Approach to Internalized Racism Among African Americans” describes cognitive conceptualization and treatment planning using CBT and a proposed cognitive model of internalized racism.
